Karen Burniston august design team challenge

hello all and welcome to August!.I can not believe hbow quickly this year is zooming by.

This month Karen challenged us to make a card inspired by another design team member. This was such a tough choice as every one of the team members are so talented. I was scrolling through everyones blog post when I saw Karens  exploding minion card tutorial and knew that was the one for me.

I made this card for my dad who love minions and can offically retired this year at the tender age of 65. I followed Karens tutorial for this minion, you can find the tutorial here. 
I also added hair to this minion using whiskers from Karens cat die set and use the chilly the penguins feet as hands.

I experimented with different dies from the Elizabeth craft range for the minion inside the card and found that the spot dies from the rubber ducky fit perfectly as eyes. The minions feet were made by die cutting black cardstock from the spade in the wheelbarrow set and snipping the pole and handle off.

I followed Karens instructions for the inside of my exploding card and used a strip of acetate sheet to suspend the balloon for the props 2 set so that when the card is open the balloon looks like it is floating.

Karen Burniston July country christmas card...

Hello and Merry christmas, well merry christmas in 165 sleeps!

This months challenge was to create a holiday card with a country feel, using any Pop it Ups dies including (but not limited to) the brand new Farm 2 and Merry & Bright.

I chose to go big and created a 12 inch wide pop up card using the new christmas tree pop stand set and the holiday house. I lined up the trees and house  dies and marked where I should cut the stands.
 To make the card and die fit through the sizzix bigshot I trimmed 2 inches off the edge parallel to the fold.

 The new tree dies are fab and  I love the new co-ordinating stamp set. They also sit perfectly with the evergreen pivot die set and the holiday house.

The merry christmas is from Karens new pop it up merry christmas set and sits so nicely on the large tag from the tag pivot set.

I love Karens new stamp set with extracts from my favourite christmas poem by Clement Clarke Moore and was very excited to be able to use it in a card.

June Karen Burniston Challenge - what's in a name.

Hello and welcome to summer!!
 
This month Karen Burniston challenged her designers to use dies that begin with the first letter of our forename and surname. I had already decided I was going to use the dog die but was struggling for inspiration into how to make it different.

My crafty friend Helen suggested I use the beach edges die for sand Dunes and the Waves.

 

As I was making my card this morning my daughter spotted the palm tree and remarked that it would make the perfect mermaids tail and voi la the merDog was born.

To complete my summery scene card I used the adirondack chair die to sit my merDog on.

Karen Burniston New Barn Die May Challenge

Hello and welcome to my Karen Burniston May design challenge post. This months challenge was to use Karens new barn die in a creative way. As a friend has just had a baby I chose to make the barn into a baby cot/crib.

To make the crib I cut two 8cm x 4cm acetate rectangles, two 8cm x 2 cm pink card rectangles, 8 white card barn door fronts and four barn door runner strips. I cut two of the barn door runner strips in half to use as 'legs' for the crib.

I folded the other two barn door runner strips in to thirds lenghways along the cut lines to create the top of the crib.

When I recieved my latest set of dies from Elizabeth craft designs I also recieve some super cute peel offs and was able to use some of the baby set for this card. I coloured the pram with my promarker pens and added some pearls on the carriage.

I used Elizabeth craft designs alphabet and number die set to add the new baby's name and date of birth.

This monkey holding balloons was also on the baby peel off set from elizabeth craft designs and I again coloured it using my promarker pens. I love layering up the cursive word dies you can get from Elizabeth craft designs to give them a shadowed look as I have with the it's a girl on the front of this card.

I have been trying to use different backgrounds for my photos and used this beautiful wisteria at the front of my house in these shots.

Karen Burniston April design team challenge...

Hi there and welcome to April!! this months challenge is a special one, as each of the design team members got to choose a fellow cardmaker (not on the team) to collaborate with. I chose the wonderfully talented Sandy Diller to be my partner. The brief this month was to choose an accordion die and get creative. Between us and our guests we'll have 21 albums for the post!

Sandy and I chose the star accordion die for our cards and I went for a new baby theme.

I receive the cute peel offs from Elizabeth craft designs and knew they would be perfect for this card. I find colouring very theraputic and had great fun colouring them with my fab set of promarkers

I finished the card of with my new elizabeth craft design 'it's a boy' word die.
