Karen Burniston february challenge.. the artsy one..

Welcome back to the secord card for this months cutesy/arty challenge. I have to admit I struggled with this one as I was a little unsure what passed as artsy. but my crafty friend Helen over at dining room drawers told me to look at shelly's work and I couldn't go wrong.

So here is my artsy attempt, I again used the new rectangle accordion die and as you can see the same paper as the cutesy card but I sponge inked the edges of the card to give it an aged look.

I used the tags dies from Karens new tags pivot die set and Elizabeth craft designs alphabet die set to add the word love.

I heat embossed the eiffel tower and the paper clip with some bronze embossing powder to give them a rustic look.

Hello and welcome to my first post for this months Artsy or Cutesy challenge. I used Karen Burnistons new retangle accordion card die which comes with the lovely cursive hello and speech bubble.

Karen Burniston January 2015 design challenge...

Hello and happy new year to you all. It's Karen Burniston design team challenge time again and I'm very excited to share with you some of her newest dies. This months challenge was to include dies from 3 (or more) categories in the Pop it Ups line - those categories are: Accordions & Frame Edges, Pivot Cards, General Pop-ups, Pull Cards, Pop Stands, Edge dies, Characters & Props, Embossing Folders, Accessory Dies.

January also happens to be the month my mum was born so I chose to design the challenge card for her birthday. She loves the owl and the pussy cat poem by Edward Leary and Karen's new cat die goes perfectly with her existing owl die. The first part of the poem reads;

The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea

   In a beautiful pea-green boat,

They took some honey, and plenty of money,

   Wrapped up in a five-pound note.

On the left you can see the bucket from Karen's new props #3 set with 'coins' in. I made the coins from shimmer sheetz using the bubbles die which comes with Karen's new bathtub stand up die set. On the right is the honey pot from the honey the bear set. The new bathtub makes a beautiful pea-green boat floating in the sea made from Karen's new beach edges die set.

 On the front I used the Katie label with the happy birthday die set.

New Home equals new craft cupboard...

We recently moved house and as my crafting space was to be in the dinning room we needed something to hide my craft stash quickly. I was able to recreate my craft cupboards using a 6 foot wide quadruple wooden wardrobe that had previously been in my bedroom.

I built the work surface at waist height using wood reclaimed from one of the childrens old single beds and some wooden storage units. I had to buy the wood for the shelves at the back though.

I knew the bottom shelf was going to be for ribbon so I glued and nailed a little lip on the top edge to stop the reels rolling off.

When everything is in plastic tubs and boxes you dont realise how many ribbon reels you have. I had so many I had to screw brass hooks into the roof of the wardrobe and suspend a 6ft dowel rod to hold the rest of my ribbon and string.

To give me a little more light I bought some kitchen under cupboard lights like these. I was able to upcycle a few more things from my kitchen cupboards including this pampered chef utensil holder.

To store my cling stamps I emptied old CD cases and used my dymo label maker to tag what was in each case.

The drawers at the bottom of the wardrobe hold my material and sizzix die stash.

 I've also downsized my collection of book to store my folders with thin dies in and paper on the bottom few shelves of the bookcase.

Karen Burniston CHA elegant wedding card sample...

I made this card for the recent CHA show in America, I wanted it to look like clean and simple from the outside and cute from the inside. I embossed the card using the Damask embossing folder and used the pretty Paris edges die.

 Look how fab Poppy the owl looks all dressed up with the bowler hat and dickie bow tie.

 I can't remember who first put the tiara on poppys head but I love the idea!
